HOW TO : BBCode

Hi everybody, in this post, I will teach you how to use the functions you see above the typing space when you post replies or post new topics :) if there's anything you still don't understand, feel free to ask for clarifications below~

I will be covering the functions in order, but if you want to find the function you want to read about quicker, a shortcut would be to press Ctrl + F on your keyboard, type in the function name you want to find and the word will be highlighted in the post.

(If you want a quick preview of what your post looks like, you can click the Preview button next to the Submit button at the bottom of your post and it will show you what your post will look like above your typing space. This is convenient because you don't have to go back and forth between the pages.)

B, i, u

To bold text, click on the B function, you will then see , you'd want to type The i function is for italicizing, and u is for underlining, you use it the same way as the B function.

Quote

For Quote, the easiest way would be to click on the Quote button on the comment that you want to quote, that way you will quote the whole comment including the person(s) that commented in that post.
If you want to manually type it, typing as below would quote the comment but NOT the person who said the comment
You would have to type
    Code: Select all
    [quote="username"]text here[/quote]
to quote with the person's name too. Quote does not need to be capitalized.
We can do nested Quote, as in "quote inside a quote".

Code

Code is basically similar to Quote in term of putting you text in a separate box for highlighting purpose as you can see I have been using Code in this post a lot. The syntax is simple

List

This is the indenting function. It does the same thing as the "Tab" button on your keyboard when you are writing essays on a word processor. If you put a block of text as below, the whole block of text will be indented: If you want to indent a second line further in, you can do
    Code: Select all
    [list]text1[list]text2[/list][/list]
The result would show as:
    Spoiler: show
      text1
        text2

And let's skip List= and [*]~ ^^

Img

This tag is to embed a picture into your post. First you'll have to upload your image to a photo hosting website (like photobucket), and by typing the URL as below: Your picture will show up on your post.

URL

If you were just to post a link without using the URL function, the link will just show up as text, you can't actually click on it and go somewhere. You can use the URL function in two ways. If you just want to show the link that you can click on, you can click URL or type IF you want to show a link that says 'click here' for example, you would type ...and you will see a 'click here' that you can click on.

Normal

"Normal" appears in a drop down list which has the ranging from Tiny to Huge. They represents the font size. What I am typing in right now is the Normal font size, which is the default size. If you want to make your font smaller or bigger, you can experiment around. To make a specific line or paragraph of text larger or smaller, click on the size you want, and type in-between
    Code: Select all
[size=85]like this[/size]  (this is the Small size).

Font color

By clicking on that function, a rainbow will appear (okay not really) with 125 colors to choose from~ click the color you'd like to use and type in-between ...and the text will turn that color
    Spoiler: show
    Test color
4shared

When you have a 4shared link you want to embed into the post, look for the 'embed' code. This should be in the "Shared with your friends!" box of codes (under the blue Download button), it should be the last row in the share box.
So it will look like "<embed src="http://www.4shared.com/embed/something" ....> The part you want to copy and paste between the [4shared][/4shared] would be the part inside the " " after src= (in this example, it is the part http://www.4shared.com/embed/something). By using this function, you can embed the 4shared mp3 player onto your post, so people can play it on your post rather than having to click the link and go to another page to play your clip. (Only support .mp3 files for now, .wav or .wma won't work)

Example:
    Embed code in 4shared website:
    <embed src="http://www.4shared.com/embed/790673387/8dfce7e3" width="420" height="250" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always"></embed>

Code need to use in APC:

    Code: Select all
    [4shared]http://www.4shared.com/embed/790673387/8dfce7e3[/4shared]

    Result:
    Spoiler: show

YTsubscribe

Then there's the cool button, this function you probably want to use in your signature. By typing your youtube username in between, a box showing your youtube avatar and username with a subscribe button will show up.
    Code: Select all
    [ytsubscribe]xinlidege[/ytsubscribe]

Center

Like the name indicates, this tag centers text. So, if you want to center a line of text, you can type as below
    Code: Select all
    [center]Text to be centered[/center]

Offtopic

When you feel that the text you're posting on your reply here goes off topic from the conversation above. You can use this tag. Interesting, huh?
    Code: Select all
    [offtopic]Oops, this is offtopic[/offtopic]
    Off Topic
    Oops, this is offtopic

Scroll

The scroll function allows you to animate your text by scrolling it across your window to the left. Don't worry, your text will come back from the right side of your window ^^ ..eventually.
    Code: Select all
    [scroll]moving text~[/scroll]
    Spoiler: show

    moving text~

Spoiler

The spoiler functions hides text, and you can see the text by clicking on 'show spoiler' in the post and the text will drop open below. This is good to use when you want to make the post neater and not super long, for example if you're quoting a lot of text or if you're pasting lyrics. If you want to hide the spoiler text again, just click on 'hide spoiler' and the text will be hidden again.
    Code: Select all
    [spoiler]Text inside spoiler[/spoiler]
    Spoiler: show
    Text inside spoiler

Strike

If you don't want to delete text from your post, but just want to cross things out for whatever reason, you can use the strike function. It draws a line across the text that you type in-between
    Code: Select all
    [strike]i am crossed out[/strike]
    i am crossed out
utube

The utube button differs from the youtube button (explained below) because you can customize the height and width of the youtube video you are embedding. The template would be [utube w=? h=?] link [/utube]. The ? is where the values should be, note that there are NO SPACES between w=? and h=?. An example would be [utube w=350 h=250] link[/utube], you can tweak the numbers to get the size you want.
    Code: Select all
    [utube w=350 h=250]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrfunkDf3yI[/utube]
    Spoiler: show
Note that the Youtube link need to be in this format: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=....
youtube

The last function! The youtube function is for embedding your youtube video into the post, you paste your youtube link [youtube]in here[/youtube] and people can just watch your video from your post by clicking that 'play' button (the triangle).
    Code: Select all
    [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrfunkDf3yI[/youtube]
    Spoiler: show
